Nearby Towns or Where We're At

The Continental Ranch is located about 1/2 way between the two old mining towns of Creede and Lake City.  Both of these towns offer a number of eating establishments. It is about a 30 minute drive to either Creede or Lake City. The drive to Lake City over Spring Creek Pass and Slumgullion Pass is one of the most scenic 30 miles you will ever encounter.

Historical

There are lots of opportunities for history buffs in both of these old mining towns. There are historical museums, walking tours and unique shopping in both locations. Lake City especially has a number of historical buildings.

Creede has an excellent underground mining museumThis museum is a true underground facility, located in a mine shaft on the north end of town.  The displays and tours there give the visitor a realistic view of mining operations that made Creede famous in the late 1800's. For more information about the Mining Museum call 719-658-0811.

Entertainment

The award-winning Creede Repertory Theatre is in operation from June through September. CRT offers a number of professional productions that rival Broadway plays. Call the CRT at 719-658-2540.

July 4th in Creede is a real celebration with something for everyone. There is a 2 day mining competition with contests in double-jacking, single-jacking, jack-leg drilling, hand and machine mucking and spike driving.  If you don't know what any of these terms mean, you need to be in Creede on the 4th of July! A parade, fireworks and plenty of food and merchandise vendors round out the celebration.

Outdoor Activities

Fishing, hiking, mountain bike riding, ATV riding, horse back riding, mountain climbing, wildlife viewing and a host of other outdoor activities are readlly available.  Tackle shops in Creede offer all the equipment that you need, plus instruction in fly-fishing.  There are several fishing guides who are able to get you to the best spots to get that fly in the water. There are several 14,000-foot mountains in the area if you are feeling really adventursome. The Continental Trail is available nearby for serious hikers and backpackers. George and Charlene Ameel and their staff at San Juan Sports in Creede can help you with outdoor gear and mountain bike rentals.

Road Trips

There is plenty of opportunity for automobile and motorcycle road trips, with some of the great scenic highways in Colorado nearby. Various wildlife species are often seen on these road trips, with deer, elk and moose being the most spectacular.

River Rafting

The experienced crew of river guides at Mountain Man Tours located in Creede can take you down the Rio Grande River on an exciting raft trip.  Spring and summer snow melt provides plenty of water in the river that makes for some great rafting. Check this activity out at www.mountainmantours.com
